I was a losing poker player for months. Then I made 5 simple changes and started winning. Here they are.

1. Play Fewer Hands

I used to play 30-35% of hands. Now I play 18-22%. Tighter is better at low stakes because players call too much — you get paid when you have strong hands.

2. Position Is Everything

I stopped playing marginal hands from early position. Now I only open with premium hands (AA, KK, QQ, AK, AQ) from early position and widen my range in late position.

3. Bet Bigger on the Flop

Small bets give your opponents good odds to draw. I switched from betting 1/3 pot to 2/3 pot on the flop. My flop c-bet success rate went from 45% to 62%.

4. Stop Bluffing Fish

New players call everything. Don't bluff them. Just value bet your strong hands and fold when they raise. Simple.

5. Take Breaks

I used to play 4-hour sessions. Now I play 90 minutes max, then take a 30-minute break. My decision quality in the last hour of a long session was terrible — I just didn't realize it.

Results

- Before changes: -8bb/100 hands (losing player) - After changes: +6bb/100 hands (winning player) - Stakes: NL25 ($0.10/$0.25) - Monthly profit: ~$150-200

Not getting rich, but I'm winning instead of losing. That's a huge improvement.
