Everyone knows a fair coin has 50/50 odds. But are online coinflip games actually fair? I tested it.
The Experiment
I played 10,000 coinflips on 3 different platforms at minimum bet ($0.10 each = $1,000 total per platform).
Results
Platform A: - Heads: 4,891 (48.91%) - Tails: 5,109 (51.09%) - Net result: -$21.80 (2.18% house edge)
Platform B: - Heads: 4,923 (49.23%) - Tails: 5,077 (50.77%) - Net result: -$15.40 (1.54% house edge)
Platform C: - Heads: 4,856 (48.56%) - Tails: 5,144 (51.44%) - Net result: -$28.80 (2.88% house edge)
What This Tells Us
1. All platforms have a house edge (expected) 2. The edge ranges from 1.5% to 3% (built into the payout, not the odds) 3. You're paying 1.5-3% for entertainment 4. Over 10,000 flips, results converge to the expected house edge
Is It Worth Playing?
If you enjoy the simplicity and treat it as entertainment, sure. Just know that long-term you'll lose 1.5-3% of what you wager. Set limits and don't chase.
