If you're still betting on 1X2 (home/draw/away), you're leaving money on the table. Asian handicap is the upgrade.
What Is Asian Handicap?
Asian handicap gives one team a virtual goal advantage or disadvantage. Key difference from European handicap: there's NO DRAW. If the result lands on the handicap number, you get your stake BACK.
Common Lines
-0.5 handicap (same as 'to win'): Team must win. Draw = loss.
-1.0 handicap: Team must win by 2+. Win by 1 = stake returned.
-1.5 handicap: Team must win by 2+. No push possible.
-0.25 handicap (quarter ball): Half your stake on 0, half on -0.5. If draw: half stake returned, half lost.
+0.5 handicap: Team can draw or win. Only lose if they lose the match.
Why It's Better Than 1X2
1. No draw — your money is either won or lost (or pushed), never stuck in a 3-way market 2. Better odds — AH odds are typically more competitive than 1X2 3. More options — quarter and half ball lines create nuanced betting 4. Stake protection — whole ball handicaps return your stake on push
Example
Arsenal vs Newcastle. 1X2 odds: Arsenal 1.55, Draw 4.20, Newcastle 5.50.
Asian Handicap -1.0 Arsenal: 1.95.
At 1.95, you need Arsenal to win by 2+ goals. But if they win 1-0, you get your stake BACK. Much better value than 1.55 on a straight win.
My Results with AH

The pushes are what make AH special — they protect your bankroll on close results.
